Getting Started

All athletics clubs require coaches to be able to provide a platform on which athletes can train. We provide opportunities for willing coaches of all levels to get involved in various club sections, including both track and field and endurance. We welcome both experienced coaches and also those with little or no experience. The club has a number of very experienced coaches, who are only too willing to assist newcomers to coaching. Newcomers can gain experience by assisting existing coaches and then go on to become qualified by attending courses. More details can be found by clicking on this link. Please note that we follow safer recruitment procedures and subject to the role you may be required to undertake a DBS check.

Details of the different England Athletics’ Coaching Courses are available here.

Please note we look to run a closed Coaching Assistant course in Coventry in the Autumn of each year and are looking to put at least another 5 people through their Athletics Coach Course in the over the next couple seasons. Get in touch if you are interested in any of these.

Beyond this we run a number of development opportunities throughout the winter, including First Aid, Physical Preparation workshops and Athlete Labs (short workshops for athletes to increase their awareness and understanding in topics like sports psychology).

DBS applications

UKA and England Athletics take their responsibilities towards the welfare of young people and vulnerable adults in athletics very seriously and requires everyone in athletics who has significant contact with children and/or vulnerable adults to have an Enhanced Disclosure Barring Service Check. UKA and England Athletics utilise an online system for DBS applications. Follow this link for further instructions from England Athletics.

We would advise any coaches requiring an updated DBS to get their documents verified by the coaching coordinator. This is because since the 1st of April 2019, renewals will also be required to complete an online safeguarding course through Educare and they can email you over the instructions and prepaid code for the short course.

Below of the Coaches Codes of Conduct, all coaches are to read and me familiar with these and adhere to as part of their position with the Club. Correct as of may 2020
