The death of Juan Taylor has been announced. He passed away at home in the Lake District and his funeral will be be on Thursday 20th February. Juan was one of the powerful team of distance runners who represented the Club back in the 1960’s. He was a member of the team which won the National senior cross country team race in 1963 and the National road relay on multiple occasions in the mid to late 1960’s.
He posted a pb for the marathon of 2:15:37 in 1964 when winning the Port Talbot marathon.
As with many distance athletes he suffered lower back injuries which brought his running career to a halt.
He took early retirement from his work at the GEC and went to live in the Lake District where he was a regular intrepid hill walker also walking the Pennine Way and the cross England coast to coast walk on a number of occasions.
