What a season it has been for Jake Minshull! At the beginning of September, he added the England U15 800 metres title to his indoor and English Schools titles. Last weekend in Exeter, he gained his first England vest with a silver medal performance in the U15 boys Pentathlon at the English Schools Combined events championships. Despite winning three of the five events, Jake lost out to a fantastic all round performance from Sammy Ball of Berkshire whose 3356 points moved him to 2nd on the the UK all time list for the age group with Jake amassing 3243 points to move to 11th.
Jake’s victories came in the 80m hurdles where he ran a club record 11.08 and recorded the 2nd fastest time in the the UK this year; long jump where his Pb of 6.32 moved him to 5th in the national rankings and the 800m ( 2.02.35). He backed this up with a Pb 1.74 in the high jump but the title was
was lost in the shot put where his 9.78 fell 3 metres short of the Berkshire boy’s performance.
Jake now sits in the top seven in his UK age group rankings over six events: in addition to the 80m hurdles, Long jump and Pentathlon he is no 1 in the 400m (51.7) and 800m (1.58.24) and 7th in the 1500m (4.13.35). He can now look forward to wearing that England vest in competition when he heads to Scotland for the Schools International on 30th November.
