End of Summer 2022 Review

Elaine B and Gary – U11, U13 and U15 for YDL and HoE

The main highlight is we have managed to get promoted to the premier league in the YDL having been relegated

We competed at the play-off match in Nottingham sat 30th July

We came in 3rd which secured promotion

We have pooled from 20-30 athletes over the season each adding points as we progressed

No stand out Athlete as all athletes delivered and contributed

Notable Story – Elaine B managed the play-off match on her own

Thanks to all parents for assisting and officials who make it happen

Elaine M, U17 & U20 YDL / HoE

Over the summer the under 17’s & under 20’s have competed in the Heart of England league and in the YDL league as a composite team with Leamington.

The season has been hugely successful with the team coming second in the premiership YDL league and making the regional final for the first time.

They went one better than that and came 2nd at the regional final to progress to the YDL National Finals in Manchester.

Over the five league competitions, 50 Godiva athletes have competed for the club with lots of them filling in gaps in events they would not normally do. At the National Finals, the team came an impressive 5th place overall and as a team we came away with 15 A string medals and 20 B string medals.

A String Gold medallists from the finals were Stephen Baffour 100m, 200m 4x100m. Jake Minshull 400m hurdles, 800m, Long jump, 4x100m, 4x400m. Caleb Coley 400m. Freya Bennett 1500m. Emmanuela Asante 100m, 200m. Kobi Jones 4×100. Pierce Clisham 4×400

Clarky & Kate A – Midland League (Seniors, U20 and U17s)

The senior league which caters for U17s, U20s and Seniors felt like it started very late this year (end of May).

We were able to win our first fixture at home in Coventry. As the season progressed, we just didn’t have enough athletes to fill events and come 3rd in the league overall to remain in Division 2 of the Midland league.

Next year we do have Birchfield in division 2 and are hoping that we may get a fixture at the commonwealth stadium (alexander)

Our biggest points scorer in the league was Francessca Rivers who totalled 96 points over 4 fixtures! Kate Anderson was 2nd with 77 points, Cheuk (Kirsty) Yan Lam 3rd with 74 points.

Leading the charge for the gents was Joseph Gilkes with 71 points, Samantha Puri was 5th with 69 points and 6th was Jake Minshull with 58 points

There is now a vacant position for the senior league team manager position

Note from the (Social) media Officer:

Thank you for taking the time to read this, I am always after help with any of the social media items as there is far too much for one person to write up about.

If you are ever training / competing and you “tag the club” its really easy to “add to our story” so please feel welcome to do so, I don’t always manage to share everything, so don’t be put off if I manage to miss something!

If you wish to get involved and help out please reach out on any of the social media platforms. A massive shout out to Jo Gilkes, Jake Minshull & Kate Anderson who throughout the season have to created posts or edited my poor spelling
